Danish Days

Danish Days, as the name refers to, are a celebration of Stykkishólmur’s connection to Denmark, as through its history the small town was a center of commerce for Snæfellsnes. It was said that the Hólmarar (residents of Stykkishólmur) didn‘t speak a word of Icelandic on Sundays, only Danish. Even though that tradition didn‘t survive to this day, this heritage of Stykkishólmur deserved some celebration and the Danish Days were born. Expatriate Hólmarar flock to the town and families come together for this celebration in the month of August. Streets are renamed to fit the theme and houses are decorated in the Danish flag colors. Emphasis is put on having a variety of activities for all ages and for the family to have fun together. On Saturday the big finale is a dance.
